Miracle in Milan
Dir. Vittorio de Sica (1950).
From Cesare Zavvatini's script which sidesteps the precepts of neorealism in favor of an allegorical fable, de Sica fashions an exuberant social protest fantasy, relevant yet sentimental. It was beautifully shot by the legendary G.R. Aldo, arguably Italy's greatest cinematographer.
