Read enough articles, listen to enough poorly assembled mp3s, or watch enough “Harlem Shake” videos, and it’s easy to feel cynical about the dance music/hip-hop crossover sound that is currently–haven’t you heard?—all the rage. Nevertheless, records like Rustie’s Glass Swords, released way back in the fall of 2011, can still restore your faith in the possibility of the sound, bursting with ebullient synths and massive drums. Shlohmo, a like-minded L.A. producer/remixer, plays first, with Jackmaster, Oneman, and D33J going on early. All should push Output’s new Funktion-One sound system to its limits.
