The boys head to New Orleans on the impressive new Red Hot, thinking up ways to boot King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton into a world where bursts of free improv pave the way for their now patented anything-goes approach. Polyphony is the lynchpin between these epochs; it’s also the band’s strong suit. Their brass/reeds/bass/drums jump cuts are always up for a roof-raising blat or two.
