The unrepentantly ungentrified performance artist Danny Hoch returns to the stage with a new one-man show titled Taking Over, an examination of the changing landscape of New York. Hoch is a Junot Díaz of the theater, lyrically channeling the voices of the discontented and dispossessed. Here, he plays nine separate characters tracing out the transformation of Williamsburg from a refuge for artists and Orthodox Jews into a hipster playground. A developer, taxi driver, rapper, activist, hippie, et al., all jostle for space inside Hoch's manic face and frame, each one clamoring to make his or her case. The performances take place in Long Island City, another neighborhood struggling with urban renewal.
Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, 8:30 p.m.; Tuesdays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 6. Continues through Oct. 10, 2008
