My Man Godfrey
Dir. Gregory La Cava (1936). Carole Lombard stars as an apparently dizzy society girl who rescues William Powell's suspiciously elegant tramp from a shanty town and brings him home as a family butler. The stars are great and the screwball premise offers a stringent antidote to mid '30s Capracorn.
