Archaic revivalists clash and coalesce when Los Angeles psychedelic savant Cameron Stallone’s Sun Araw joins Brooklyn avant-Hindi sister act Prince Rama during a promised collaborative set capping an evening-long journey into the mystic. On his four Sun Araw albums, including the new Ancient Romans, Stallone combines a guitar style somewhere between Ash Ra Temple’s Manuel Göttsching and Neil Young with cryptic keyboards, dub bass, and a long-take sensibility. Prince Rama’s Taraka and Nimai Larson abandoned a Florida Hare Krishna community for a Boston art school. Their six albums—most recently Trust Now—explore ritual and transcendence through percussion, keyboards, costuming, and, like Stallone, the sonic suggestions of avant-garde film. Electronically enhanced solo vocalist Julianna Barwick, eclectic Brooklyn post-emo rockers Pterodactyl, and a Teengirl Fantasy DJ set the stage.
