No Orchids for Miss Blandish
Dir. St. John L. Clowes (1948). This clumsily directed faux-American gangster flick was the scandal of 1948. A ripe-for-depravity debutante falls for the spiv who kidnaps her-and vice versa. (It's a love story.) British reviewers were not amused. Waxing poetic, one rhapsodized that the movie had "the morals of an alley cat" and "the sweetness of a sewer."
