While touring Europe earlier this year with his minimalistic avant-garde folk group Charalamabides, Brooklyn-based guitarist Tom Carter contracted pneumonia and spent weeks in a German intensive care unit. He returned home last month but faces a large financial burden due to his illness. To help him out, ISSUE Project Room has organized tonight’s Tom Carter Benefit, which features his friends and some like-minded experimenters. Those performing include fuzzy noise rockers Chelsea Light Moving, a new project featuring Sonic Youth vocalist-guitarist Thurston Moore that so far sounds pretty Sonic Youth-y, guitarist Steve Gunn, sound manipulators White Out, and a solo performance by sometime No Neck Blues Band member David Shuford. All proceeds go to Tom Carter, and donations can also be made online at helptomcarter.org.
