NOT QUITE SUPERFREAKS
Their name is derived from Nadsat (A Clockwork Oranges unique language), which is derived from Russian, and it means little girlwhich is prophetic because, for a decade, DeVotchKa was just another great, modest Eastern-Euro rock band left off the radar. And they were from Denver. Now, they are from Little Miss Sunshine, that ubiquitous flick of smooshy family solidarity and uplifting kinder-stripping, and the soundtrack they composed has propelled them to a fame they can definitely handle. Their Greek-, bolero-, and Romani-folk spirals into notorious oddity live, and should enliven Webster Hall. To think, it only took four albums, hundreds of tour dates, and Steve Carells beard.
