An Of Montreal concert is kind of like a Broadway musical scored by Berlin-era David Bowie--a psychedelic explosion of bizarre costumes and fantastical vignettes, all set to euphorically woozy noise. For this reason, Kevin Barnes & Co.'s kaleidoscopic indie rock seems to make the most sense live--the recorded music can't exist without the stage presentation. In fact, he's previously used concerts to foreshadow his music: at a New York gig last year, Solange Knowles joined the band for a rendition of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" and then she made an appearance on their album, False Priest, in their song "Sex Karma."
