He started off two decades ago with a mess of reeds in front of him, and they brought plenty of whomp! to the mischievous bassist-composer's small ensemble work. These days he's down to two Joel Frahm and Eli Degibri who surely will get the job done. He hasn't played in town for a minute and a new album drops in March. That means fresh material for the Avital approach, which involves very physical blues motifs spun to ditch any and all cliché.
