For those of you who love Spinal Tap except for their pesky sense of humor, here cometh East Village Opera Company, a troupe of highbrows who spin soft-metal riffs into classic and obscure opera tracks. They give Rigoletto's "La Donna È Mobile" double-ax blasts and Steve Perryvein croons and go entirely Earth, Wind & Fire all over "Brindisi Libera," as just two of numerous homogenous examples, and reportedly scour the Strand's bargain vinyl bins for outdated librettos. If this sounds a bit cheddar, follow those instincts—but 'tis the season for some ludicrous fun, right?
