Ukulele, field recording loops, reggae syncopation, a cavernous soprano that envelops all ideas in unearthly oddity—tUnE-yArDs may only be one woman, New England's Merrill Garbus, but her sprawling experimentalism would satisfy five lesser oddballs. This year's debut BiRd-BrAiNs (yes, of the same junior-high capitalizing whims) was packed with lo-fi, intimate, amorphous compositions of world, folk, and pop emphasis and earned her tour dates with the Dirty Projectors. Tiny art space the Stone will hardly accommodate all her ideas, and certainly not all her newfound art-spaz fans; plan accordingly, or you may miss this sparrow humming, "I got pregnant with birds that sing prettier than you," ("Fiya").
