PIECING IT TOGETHER
The most detailed and elaborate graffiti takes some planning. Spray-paint artists sketch their ideas before hitting the wall, and it's in that meticulous planning that a personal style develops. Author Sacha Jenkins (founder of Ego Trip and Miss Rap Supreme producer) and former graffiti artist David "Chino" Villorente have put together Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers to highlight the best New York City graffiti artists from the '70s till the mid-1980s and also nurture aspiring taggers and bombers. Sandwiched between works by featured artists like Skeme, Haze, Quik, Doze, TC 5, and Blade are plenty of blank pages for your own creativity to shine. Bring your own colored pencils and show the pair what you can do.
