A spate of fairy-tale-inspired ballets unsuitable for children has come our way from Europe. In the latest, Angelin Preljocaj’s 2008 Snow White, the French-Albanian choreographer’s 25-member troupe, Ballet Preljocaj, adheres closely to the original dark version of the Grimm story, focusing on the narcissistic stepmother. With a score assembled from Mahler symphonies and contemporary electronic sound, the piece trumpets its costume designer, Jean-Paul Gaultier, whose sex-positive clothes recently departed the Brooklyn Museum.
