Dir. Corneliu Porumboiu (2009). Three high school kids have been smoking hash. A young detective watches them, files reports and decides that the crime is too minor to warrant prosecutionbut who is he to judge. Staged for maximum objectivity, Police, Adjective has something of the deadpan comic theatricality of early Jim Jarmusch. But the movie is also a deadly serious, often brilliant analysis of bureaucratic procedure and the tyranny of language.
