POP OVER TO AFRICA
To get a feel for the new wave of African fashion, music, and art, look no further than AFRIKA21, part of Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturday. The slew of interactive pop-up shops, which showcase the work of individuals who are reframing how Africa is perceived in the 21st century, provides attendees with a chance to experience contemporary African culture while also encouraging active participation. Guests are invited to take in film shorts curated by African Film Festival Inc., listen to and watch live broadcasts of the AFRIKA21 radio show, shop for African-inspired goods, and pose for group portraits. DJ Frei, BBox Radio, and Nigerian soul singer Denitia Odigie provide the tunes.
