The saxophone becomes another monster entirely under the fingers of Greg Osby. The free funk and avant-garde/bop bandleader is the rare veteran with a résumé that includes the Berklee School of Music, a stint with the famed M-Base Collective, and a tour with the Dead (yes, as in Grateful), and his style mixes these myriad influences. A vicious but poised player since his 1987 wax debut (Greg Osby & Sound Theater on JMT), he has become more conscious of atmosphere over the years. Expect an intense one tonight.
