The first band ever to take Metallica on the road were British self-proclaimed "athletic metal" group Raven, who joined up with the burgeoning behemoths in 1983 and are celebrating their 40th anniversary next year. Although their relative lack of success after that tour has foisted the group into the depths of metal trivia, the band’s inventive riffs, bloodthirsty stage presence, and perpetual motion tempos deserve some credit for their contributions to '80s metal milieu.
