Real Estate+Kurt Vile
From Bruce Springsteen to Zach Braff, true artists cull inspiration from the majestic backdrop of the Garden State. Popular lo-fi outfit Real Estate (named for frontman Martin Courtney's backup career) mines the Jersey Shore in their elegantly layered guitar blasts. More highlander than highwayman, solo artist Kurt Vile, appearing with a full band for the first time, goes for the erratic approach. (Just compare the Iron Maiden-esque stoner-metal-ode "Hunchback" to the Krautrock sax solos of "Freak Train.") Really, it's the show of the summer, but who wants to say that it in early July? With Big Troubles.
