Raise your hand if you groaned when you realized you would not be getting a three-day weekend this Fourth of July. To make it up to you, Rooftop Films is presenting a completely free outdoor program of short films titled The American Experience, which it promises will celebrate “the diversity, daring, and charm of our country”—and get you home at a reasonable hour for work on Thursday. The lineup includes Month One, a doc about the early days of OWS, My American Life, about a Bengali-American teenager struggling to lead a “normal” American life, and Mulvar Is Correct Candidate!, about one man’s misguided attempt to run for office. Guitarist Dustin Wong provides the pre-show tunes. You will also be able to see a live feed of the Macy’s fireworks display because—another bummer—they’re on the Hudson again this year. Sigh.
