Regina Carter & Reverse Thread
It's always seemed that the virtuoso violinist needed to let her hair down a bit, and the new Reverse Thread gives her an ideal opportunity. Certainly this romp through African folk tunes is her most engaging affair; she brings a poetic sway to the fore with every bow stroke. As her strings mix with accordion and kora, the musicincluding a few updates of field recordings from Ugandan Jewsmoves from joy to melancholy. Pulse drives the action, and the tumbleweed of the Diaspora keeps rolling along. Should be sweet on stage.
