'Rhythm of Rajasthan'
The fifth New York Gypsy Festival concludes with a performance by this ensemble from northwestern India, birthplace of the Roma people. Their ecstatic singing (accompanied by the sarangi bowed lute and algoza double flute) resembles the ecstatic call-and-response crescendoes of Pakistani qawwali. As a bonus, Suva Devi will perform the Kalbeliya snake-charming dance.
