Part of WNYC host John Schaefer's "New Sounds Live" series, Requiem for Fossil Fuels finds sound artists Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger (together known as O+A) anticipating the inevitable end of our worldwide dependence on coal, gas, and oil. The piece mixes live vocal performances by four singers (mezzo-soprano Hai-Ting Chinn, soprano Martha Cluver, tenor Geoffrey Silver, and bass Mark Uhlemann) with what O+A refer to as an eight-channel "orchestra of cities": field recordings of cars and jets and the like, some of which were originally captured at the World Financial Center in 2004. Be sure to take the subway here, ya'll.
