There's a circle of local improvisers who are mastering all things mercurial, and the pianist's fluid approach to melodies and their extrapolations is a great example. The new Personal Tonal may be his most fetching record yet, with Loren Stillman's alto cascading through themes that lilt as a matter of course. The Hebert/McPherson rhythm section makes everything pliable, but it's Lossing's guiding touch that brings grace to the foreground, especially during a Pig Latin spin on Mozart.
