What happens the day after Thanksgiving? We start getting ready for Christmas, of course. VHS Turkeys, a whole week of tasteless gross-out cult favorites and hilariously misguided art films that are only available on videocassette, will start your holiday season off right. Tonight, kick back in one of the 60 reclaimed car seats at the unique indie theater reRun and enjoy the double feature of Elves, Jeffrey Mandel’s 1989 film about neo-Nazis trying to create a new master race by cross-breeding elves with virgins, and The Magic Christmas Tree (1964), which stars “the world’s bitchiest talking plant,” according to Zach Clark, the series’ programmer. Clark will appear tonight and Saturday to discuss the films and dole out special holiday prizes. Other highlights from the program include Multiple Maniacs (November 28 at 7), John Waters’s 1970 film starring Divine that begins with a chicken’s head being chopped off and rolling down a hill, and Manson (November 29 at 7), the ultra-creepy 1973 Oscar-nominated documentary on the Manson Family. Ah, our heart feels a little warmer already.
Mondays-Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: Nov. 25. Continues through Dec. 7, 2011
