Serena Jean Southam is the type of singer who probably belongs in Nashvillebe it singing her own sad country tunes, interpreting songwriters in sessions and working her way up through the studio system, or holding down a gig on Music Rowbut New York has her for now and is richer for it. The latest incarnation of her band, playing around town frequently, features the excellent Manhattan guitar journeyman Scott Metzger as well as members of Earl Greyhound and the Rosewood Thieves. Southam's voice is honeyed and punctuated with more than a few alluring cosmic winks.
