When comedian Tig Notaro performed at the Largo in L.A. earlier this year, she warmed up the crowd with this opening line: “Thank you. I have cancer. Thank you.” Although people laughed, she wasn’t joking. Notaro had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Not exactly the kind of topic that gets the crowd rolling in the aisles. But on her podcast Professor Blastoff, which premiered at No. 1 on the iTunes comedy podcast chart, Notaro and her co-hosts Kyle Dunnigan and David Huntsberger often make light of her condition as they riff on everything from the end of the world to the events of the Civil War. Most recently, she had this news to share: “I am a very, very excited person that gets to say that I do not have cancer—as far as I know.” Tonight, give Notaro a warm round of applause at this live taping of their podcast.
