SHOUT IT OUT
Celebrating queer culture downtown for the past 22 years, the Hot! Festival is a whole month of burlesque, circus arts, comedy, dance, cabaret, literature—you name it. A major highlight of this year’s program is Lea DeLaria and Maggie Cassella’s The Loudest Show on Earth, which kicks off its run at Dixon Place tonight. Known for their brash, crude, opinionated, and, yes, very loud performance styles, the two women and frequent collaborators will be exploring “the queer urban existence” with music, comedy, and, they promise, lots of “F-bombs.” As DeLaria is a fantastic jazz singer (see her album The Live Smoke Sessions), let’s hope she does more than a song or two.
Fridays, Saturdays, 10 p.m. Starts: July 12. Continues through July 27, 2013
