SONGS FOR SINGLES
Last time Torche came through New York, the band went as soft at Guided by Voices’ ’90s indie anthem “Exit Flagger” and as hard as “Tarpit Carnivore,” a rumbling deep cut off their 2007 debut In Return that had heads banging and the floor of the Music Hall of Williamsburg shaking. Tonight, they join two bands (London indie noise dudes Part Chimp and Boston punks Dirty Fences) whose sound veers closer to the former, but expect plenty of shouted vocals and sludgy guitar lines nonetheless. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Torche frontman Steve Brooks will reprise the blond wig that allowed him to whip his hair back and forth along with the crowd.
