Sons of the Desert

(William Seiter, 1933). This was the fourth of Laurel and Hardy’s full-length features, and arguably the best. The adorable duo sneak off to a Masonic lodge without telling their bullying wives, and all hell breaks out when the women discover the deception. It’s very funny, with a great richness of detail, and directed by Seiter with a perfect understanding of the precise timing required by the team’s personalities.
