As much as we welcome the Nets, nothing says New York quite like street ball, and nothing says street ball quite like Rucker Park, the legendary Harlem court that tonight serves as the location for a screening of GOAT radio DJ Bobbito Garcia’s new documentary, Doin’ It in the Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC. Culled from visits to 180 courts in all five boroughs, the film, a collaboration with another first-time filmmaker, Kevin Couliau, features interviews with everyone from Pee Wee Kirkland and Dr. J to the guy who sent your last jumper flying into the jungle gym. The screening begins at 8:30 (and will be moved to Sunday in the event of rain), but come early for a couple of warm-up DJ sets and even earlier to see how the game is played in the flesh.
