Reminiscing about the first time he worked with Penélope Cruz on 1997s Live Flesh, the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar told the New York Times, I remember that our biggest problem was how to make her look ugly. All the very humble, secondhand 70s clothes we had bought looked wonderful on her. We imagine thats still a problem for the director, who chose the lovely Cruz to star in his latest, Broken Embraces, their fourth film together.
