M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez moved from his native France to Los Angeles to make his new album, and like a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming reflects the creative atmosphere of his new home: It’s an expansive double-disc electro-pop effort defined by sweeping widescreen melodies and lush effects-house detail. (The album also features some song titles worthy of L.A.’s best comedy writers. See “My Tears Are Becoming a Sea” and “Klaus I Love You.”) Wrapping up a month-long North American tour, M83 hit New York this week for a pair of sold-out shows with West Coast harp & B dude Active Child.
