If you accidentally summoned your dead first wife from the grave via a seance, making your new wife incredibly jealous, what would you do? Such is Rex Harrisons predicament as Charles Condomine in David Leans 1945 British comedy Blithe Spirit. As a celebration of both Harrison and Leans 100th birthdays, MOMA is screening this delightful classic, adapted from Noel Cowards play, in a newly restored 35mm color print. Kay Hammond plays Elvira, the ghostly first wife who tries to win her husband back, while Constance Cummings stars as second (living) wife Ruth, whose jealousy and irritability skyrocket as she spies her rivals supernatural advances. Til death do us part just doesnt apply here.
