Dir. Hayao Miyazaki (2001).
One nutty fruitcake, Miyazaki’s Mononoke follow-up is an Alice in Wonderland story in which a ten-year-old girl finds herself in a literal ghost town that functions as a cosmic bathhouse. The movie is populated by sensational creatures (frogs in kimono, rolling ducks, bouncing heads, twin harpies, squeaky fuzzballs, living blobs of yuck); it’s funny, inexplicable transformations are closer to vintage Fleischer Bros than Disney.
