On the one-year anniversary of cult rock hero/alchemist Alex Chiltons death comes this loving celebration of his pop-goth classicthe third Big Star album, Third/Sister Lovers, recorded in 74, issued in 78. To re-create it, the albums original orchestrations will be finally heard again at Big Star Third and an impressive lineup has been corralled, including collaborators such as BS drummer Jody Stephens and Chris Stamey (the dB's), as well as fans and progeny such as R.E.M.s Mike Mills, Matthew Sweet, producer Mitch Easter, Yo La Tengos Ira Kaplan, Teenage Fanclubs Norman Blake, and singer Tift Merritt. Low-key contrarian that he was, Chilton himself might have been freaked out by such a gathering, but for anyone who cherished his work, this is a wonderful way to honor him. This just in: Michael Stipe has been added to the lineup.
