STORM ON THE HORIZON
With the NBA lockout threatening to wipe out the pro season, New York roundball fans have something to fall back on: The Red Storm is back! Last season, the first under head coach Steve Lavin, saw a return of St. John’s basketball tradition as they finished 21-12 with wins against six Top 25 teams and earned their first berth in the NCAA tournament since 2002, finishing 18th in the AP’s Top 25. This year might be a little dicey out of the gate with only senior Malik Stith returning, but Lavin had a fine recruiting class season, and this team will really be out to win one for the Gipper, as their coach is recovering from prostate cancer. (The outlook is good.) You might want to get your tickets early as last year, home attendance jumped by 38 percent!
