TALKIN' ABOUT TONIGHT
"Get Drunk and Be Somebody" might be a Toby Keith tune, but it's a sentiment to which Toronto hardcore group Fucked Up would surely relate. Their latest, David Comes to Lifea nearly 80-minute rock opera written, one would imagine, for those who felt that Titus Andronicus's epic Civil War--meets--Zen Arcade album, The Monitor, lacked ambitionrecords suburban mundanity and projects it onto the side of the biggest building in sight, turning the concept album's nobody title character, David, into, well, somebody. Still, neither the story nor the runtime are as massive as singer Damian Abraham, who likes to stand on stage shirtless to expose his boulder of a gut, the rock on which future generations of punks will build their church. With Wavves.
