TEEN POP THAT
“They say we dance like the Jacksons, all we missing is Tito,” sing boyband Mindless Behavior on a glitchy r&b banger that strikes my grown ears as more Chris Brown than Motown. Breakout hit “My Girl,” on the other hand, is pure teenpop, a middle school love song that grabs the rolling synths from Young Money’s “Bedrock” and updates MJ’s ABC’s to include a more modern alphabet, with one of the four boys suggesting that his sweetie hit him back “with the less-than symbol, number three.” They certainly won’t need to explain what they mean to rap trio OMG Girlz, who open the show.
