The Creature from the Black Lagoon
Dir. Jack Arnold (1954). When it was released, this offbeat hackle-raiser about a scientific expedition in the Amazon that happens on a prehistoric Gill Man, half fish, half human, was a welcome relief from all the cliched monsters from outer space. The creature makeup by Bud Westmore was fairly original and the flick is still capable of popping a few goose pimples on susceptible fantasy fans. It was originally released in 3-D.
