The End of Summer
Dir. Yasujiro Ozu (1961). Dealing with the last days of a patriarch enjoying a brief second childhood, much to his grown childrens disapproval, Yasujiro Ozus penultimate movie is at once rambunctious and elegiac. None of Ozus late films have quite this deftly offbeat mix of farce, melancholy, and stoical acceptance.
Fridays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Oct. 29. Continues through Oct. 31, 2010
