THE LOVE TRAIN
When we first moved to New York, we were told that making a love connection on the subway and getting off together for a little rendezvous always happened (ha!). Apparently, these kinds of romances are more common in the Czech Republic, the setting of Filip Renc's 2005 film From Subway With Love. In this romantic comedy, two women—Laura, a 20-year-old editor at a women's weekly, and her widowed mother, a translator-interpreter named Jana—are both in search of Mr. Right. Laura, who is finished dating Czech men, wants a foreigner, but when she falls for an older man, who happens to be an old flame of her mother's, well . . . it's complicated.
