During her 2010 piece The Artist Is Present, performance artist Marina Abramovic stared at MOMA visitors for a whopping 736 hours and 30 minutes. By comparison, today’s eight-hour marathon reading of Solaris, presented by the Marina Abramovic Institute and The Atlas Review, should be a breeze. More than 40 readers will take turns reading from Stanislaw Lem’s 1961 science-fiction novel about a group of human scientists studying the oceanic surface of the planet Solaris—and the aliens studying them.
