The Passion of Joan of Arc
(Carl Theodore Dreyer, 1928). One of the last great pictures of the silent era, Dreyer's stark masterpiece follows the sequence of the iniquitous trial, the death sentence and Joan's execution. In the title role, Marie Falconetti gives one of the most intense performances in the history of cinemait's astonishing that this is the only film she ever made.
