The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover
Dir. Larry Cohen (1977). Cohen’s hip and scurrilous docudrama is the best tabloid history made in Hollywood since they ran Sam Fuller out. Although the Cohen scenario is no less paranoid than Oliver Stone’s JFK or Nixon, the delivery is far more intentionally comic.
