The Romance of Astrea and Celadon
Dir. Eric Rohmer (2007).
Eric Rohmers swan song is his quintessential film. At once silly and straight-faced, this adaptation of a 17th century romance, oddly contemporary although set in an imagined fifth-century Gaul, conflates three time periods, raising Rohmers career-long concerns (attractive young people discussing the nature of love, truth, and fidelity) to cosmic heights.
