Wordless Music Series favorites the Books return unaccompanied tonight, which means they'll still stride close to being intricately overwhelming. Singer-guitarist Nick Zammuto and cellist Paul de Jong favor esoteric effects and foreign blips of speech in their formless rock circuitry—"collage music," per Zammuto. This year's The Way Out, their fourth album, brought new humor in a daffy bedtime story ("The Story of Hip Hop") and meandering math worship ("Beautiful People"), but the technique behind them was tangled and tenacious as ever.
