The Slackers

The last time you heard ska in a bowling alley, it was "Santeria" by Sublime. Tonight, New York outfit the Slackers will draw upon their highly listenable blend of garage rock-steady with covers both classic (Bill Withers's "Ain't No Sunshine") and kitsch (Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive"). While their personal fare tends to skew deep ("Mr. Tragedy") and Weird Al-esque ("The TV Dinner Song"), their musicianship is unparalleled. The band's previous collaborators have included members of the Skatalites, the Slits and reggae legend Susan Cadogan. With the Frighteners and the Forthrights.
