THE TWILIGHT HOUR
Spiff up the Topsiders, kids—the boys are back in town. This week, New York's premier band of globe-tripping Ivy Leaguers, Vampire Weekend, returns to record stores with Contra, its excellent (and audacious) sophomore disc, and to mark the occasion, they are playing a series of three consecutive-release shows in three increasingly intimate venues: United Palace on Sunday, Webster Hall tonight, Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, each gig is already sold out, with strict ID policies for picking up tickets in place. Yet as all children of privilege understand, where there's dough, there's rarely a no. With New Jersey's fuzz-punky Titus Andronicus at United Palace, local psych-soul chanteuse Holly Miranda at Webster Hall, and Dirty Projectors alum Nat Baldwin at Bowery Ballroom.
